Know If Your Home Is At Risk For Mold Contamination

New York, New York, September 23, 2009 – NYC mold removal is the most demanded mold remediation service in New York. Certified Mold Inspections, the leading NYC mold removal company in New York, identifies risk factors that might lead to mold infestation in your home.

Certified Mold Inspections have identified fine furnishings and antiques to be possible sources of mold. Old furnitures and antique stuffs that are bought from antique shops are stored in storage areas for quite some time. Sometimes, these storage areas lack ventilation and humidity control. Knowing molds, these fussy microbes thrive well in areas that are dark, humid and moist. With the lack of ventilation and proper lighting, it most likely that these antiquities are contaminated with molds. Notice how old furnitures and carpets have that musty odor? This musty odor is the hallmark of mold infestation. Before bringing these old stuffs home, think again. Would you be willing to risk your own health?

CMI also identifies plants and animals as causative factors for mold infestation inside your home. Remember that molds are helpful in the ecosystem as they contribute to the decaying process of dead plants and animals. Sometimes, mold spores are lodged in the leaves of plants where they grow and germinate. There is a great chance that your household pets such as your cats and dogs may spread the mold sires inside your house since it is unavoidable for these animals not to play around in your garden.

Defects or leaks in your plumbing system, roofs and pooling of water in the basement and crawl spaces may also put your home to high risk of germinating mold. Any form of excess moisture is a good environment for mold growth. NYC mold removal tip given by CMI is to stop the possible source of mold growth by fixing the leaks and holes.

It is always wise to start with the mold removal as soon as the mold growth is spotted. Once spotted, immediately eliminate the source of mold infestation – moisture and humidity. The removal of mold may be in the form of cleaning, disinfecting and may also include repairs, and carpeting something that you can do yourself if the contamination is minor. However, if you think that the mold problem is too much for you to handle, you could always call on the number one NYC mold removal firm in New York, Certified Mold Inspections, and they’ll do the job efficiently and thoroughly for you.

Dealing With Your Household Mold Problem

Dealing With Your Household Mold Problem

In most circumstances, you will find black dirt on the surface of your wall or in moist places or potions of your house like the laundry room at the basement, bathroom, kitchen tiles and caulking of your bath tubs and sinks. These dirt-like substances are not to be overlooked or just taken forgranted as they can cause a lot of problems. Commonly known as mildew or mold, these fungal infestations are noted to have caused harmful health effects humans and animals.

As soon as they are spotted, the NYC mold removal process should take place. May it be a “do it yourself” or done by the mold remediation experts, mold removal is something that should be done in the soonest time possible to prevent its spread and cause health problems.

Molds appear as fussy and downy growth and thrive well in moist and humid conditions, devouring on porous and highly fibrous materials such as wood, paper, and fabric. Since moisture is what keeps the molds from thriving, the best thing to do in dealing with the mold problem is to dry out the moisture. The use of electric fan as a means of drying out the damp is not recommended as it may cause the mold spores to spread, thereby contaminating other areas of the house. Allow air to circulate inside you home by opening the windows and doors. Molds also grow best in dark and humid areas. Using dehumidifiers to lessen up the humidity is a good way to stop the source of mold growth. Lighting up the dark area may also help.

There are different types of molds. Some of these molds are used on the processing of foods, while there are some used in medications like the antibiotics. However, there are molds that are considered toxic and are detrimental to human health. Common example of these molds is the toxic black mold. Black mold’s spores contain mycotoxins that when inhaled or ingested could cause a lot of health problems such as cough, upper respiratory tract infection, headache, runny nose, bleeding lungs, and on worst conditions, kidney and liver disease as well as the involvement of the organs and other structures of the central nervous system such as the brain.

If mold removal is something that you are not knowledgeable of, asking help from NYC mold removal experts to deal with the mold problems is the best move to take. Mold removal experts are professionals in the field of mold remediation and are more knowledgeable in dealing with the mold problem. In asking help, choose the NYC mold removal firm that conforms to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines in mold removal, as this is the surest way to secure the safety of you and your family.

Molds are of different species, and the experts at mold remediation know how to deal with each species. The NYC mold removal team is equipped with mold remediation gadgets and equipments needed in dealing with the mold problem. The most effective way to deal with the mold problem is to prevent the problem itself. Clean your bathroom, sinks and bathtubs regularly, change the shower curtain, dry out visible moistures as soon as possible, promote good ventilation inside your home and have your homes inspected.

Mold inspection is a prerequisite to mold removal. Infrared scanners and moisture meters are very useful in spotting areas unseen by the naked eye like between walls, air ducts and ventilation systems. They also come in hand in locating the cause and/or source of moisture such as roof and water pipe leaks. Particle detectors are used to determine whether the surrounding and circulating air is contaminated. With these equipments, Five Boro is able to acquire an eagle eye that lefts nothing unseen. “I’ve seen how their inspectors work, and I mist say that are truly good at what they do and their equipments are really modernized,” said David Michaels, a landlord of an apartment in New York.

Part of Five Boro Mold Specialist, Inc.’s NYC mold inspections is mold testing. Black Mold Removal: Is it Safe?

Black Mold Removal: Is it Safe?

Black molds are also known as “toxic molds”. They are labeled as such because unlike any other mold types, black mold can cause health hazards. Black molds prefer to thrive in damp areas most especially in organic and inorganic materials that are cellulose or fibrous in consistency like paper, cardboard, bread, lint, ceiling, wooden panels, carpets and a lot more. Black mold can contaminate and start to cultivate in your household in cases where there is water flood damage and constant dampening in a particular area of your house caused by water pipe leaks. Initiate black mold removal as early as possible, so as to prevent it from spreading and contaminating other areas of your household.
Upon contamination, black molds can proliferate in as short as 24-48 hours. By this timeframe, it may already cause great damage to your furnishings. Black mold removal is the only way that’s appropriate to get rid of these rankles. However, black mold removal is something that should not be misunderstood. It’s not like your regular dusting and cleaning. You are not allowed to scrape off the black mold. Remember that black molds are toxic. They are called so because they contain with them mycotoxins which are byproducts of their metabolism. Mycotoxins are contained in mold spores that are easily detached from the black mold and can contaminate the circulating air. Scraping the mold would only lead to accidental inhalation and ingestion of the mold spores. When inhaled, the mycotoxins in molds spores can cause cough, allergic reactions, skin rashes, hemoptysis (coughing out of blood), respiratory tract infection, conjunctivitis or eye irritation, nausea and vomiting, and fatigue to an immunocompromised host and a lot more potentially life threatening ailments.
Black mold removal is not safe especially when done the wrong way. Scrupulous mold removal with the use of fungicides and antimicrobial agents are the best means to remove the mold infestation. Your initial step to make is to locate and eliminate the source of cultivation. In the case of molds, their life source comes from moisture and humidity. If the cause of, black mold growth is pipe leaks, fix it. Once the problem is fixed, you can now proceed with the black mold removal.
Firstly, contain the black mold in one area by preventing it from spreading into uncontaminated areas. So how can you contain black mold? By making wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling plastic sheeting around the mold growth, you will be able to contain the black mold. Dry up the area to prevent the moisture from sipping in further by using dehumidifiers. The use of standard electric fans is not advisable as fanning can cause the mold spores to spread and contaminate the air.
Once the black mold is contained and the work area is dried, you are now ready to go the next step of black mold removal; the killing of the mold. With proper protective shield such as gloves, mask, eye shields, biohazard suits, start the killing of the black mold by fogging or spraying the area with all organic and natural fungicides and home remedies for killing mold. Natural forms of mold killing agents are safer and advocates green living. Bleaches are not advisable as they can’t kill molds. Let the fungicides stay for an hour to ascertain optimum mold killing.
Once the toxic molds are killed, you may now proceed with the removal of the mold. Black mold removal is done by scrubbing the area with mold cleaners that are advocated by the EPA. Once the molds are fully removed, get rid of the materials that are contaminated and replace them with materials that do not permit mold growth to prevent the mold from coming back. Prevention is the last and final step of the black mold removal process. Removing mold is one sure way to guarantee the safety of you and your family’s health.
If you are uncertain as how to implement the black mold removal process, you may contact the black mold removal experts like Certified Mold Inspections Inc. CMI have been in the business of mold removal for over a decade and is the leading black mold removal expert in New York, offering services like fumigation, mold inspections, mold testing and a lot more.

Mold Removal NYC-Is mold as dangerous as they say it is

Is mold as dangerous as they say it is? By Michael Lawrence Reed

Is mold really as dangerous as people say it is? Is my health really at risk if I’m exposed to mold? Are my children at a greater risk? If you have asked yourself any of these questions, the answers are yes, yes and definitely yes! Mold is not something to take lightly and its affects are greater than you may think. Constant exposure to mold can lead to damage to the respiratory, immune and neurological systems. Mold will also slowly destroy your home if not removed as soon as possible.

Before we discuss the effects mold may have on the body and your property, let us answer the question, ‘What is mold?’ Molds are forms of fungi that can be found both indoor and outdoor all year long. Molds reproduce by producing tiny spores; these spores float through the air continuously. When these spores land on damp areas indoors, they begin growing and digesting the material they have landed on as a means of survival. Although it can grow during cold weather, mold growth is heightened by warm and humid conditions. Most mold forms found indoors comes from an outside source, unless, there are other factors involved such as water damage or high humidity. Situations such as flooding, plumbing and roof leaks, and damp basements can be catalysts for mold. When excessive moisture accumulates indoors, it usually results in mold growth. Most mold growth isn’t visual as it grows from inside the walls towards the surface. Sometimes mold leaves a very noticeable scent, but visually will be undetectable.

Being exposed to mold can lead to many side effects. Some of these side affects are minor while some are very severe. Some people can be in a room contaminated with high levels of mold spores and have no reaction whatsoever while others may only have to step into that room to feel an affect. Symptoms of overexposure to mold are coughing, congestion, runny nose, eye irritation such as itching or burning, fatigue, headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms to name a few. Long term exposure to mold can cause or worsen asthma and hay fever (rashes, fatigue and headaches) as well as cause dizziness, eczema, chronic fatigue, persistent headaches and in some cases memory loss.

There are certain types of people that are more susceptible to health affects caused by mold exposure than others. These individuals usually have one if not more of these factors: Those who have a weak immune system (Those who go through chemotherapy), people who are very old or very young, women who are pregnant, and individuals with respiratory issues. Children in particular have an adverse reaction to mold. The child’s developing immune system is not strong enough to fight off airborne mold spores and other contaminants, causing a serious health hazard to newborns and the like.

Mold can damage the structural support of a building or dwelling. Mold can grow on support beams and other integral parts of a building structure. Once mold has infested enough areas on these structures, these beams and foundations will break and the damage will be extensive, causing you to have to pay enormous home repair fees. Mold isn’t just a hazard to your health but also your own financial future.

We at Five Boro Mold Specialist, Inc. pride ourselves on helping hundreds of families overcome their mold situations for over a decade. Our certified mold technicians can give you a peace of mind with their thorough evaluation in order to determine the most effective way to get rid of the silent killer in your home. Our inspections consist of the extraction of air cassette samples from both indoor and outdoor for comparison as well as swab samples from surfaces in your home. Reasons for "Mold inspections"- Aspergillus the killer mold

Submit to FindNews.org

Here is one great reason for an immediate "mold inspection"

One of the most toxic molds-

Aspergillus is a genus of around 200 molds found throughout much of nature worldwide. Aspergillus was first catalogued in 1729 by the Italian priest and biologist Pier Antonio Micheli. Viewing the fungi under a microscope, Micheli was reminded of the shape of an aspergillum (holy water sprinkler), and named the genus accordingly.

Many species can cause infection in humans and other animals. Some infections found in animals have been studied for years. Some species found in animals have been described as new and specific to the investigated disease and others have been known as names already in use for organisms such as saprophytes. For humans there is a range of diseases such as infection to the external ear, skin lesions, and ulcers classed as mycetomas.

Pathogens
Some of this species of mold can cause serious disease in humans and animals, and can be pathogenic. The most common causing mold types are Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus flavus. Aspergillus flavus produces aflatoxin which is both a toxin and a carcinogen, and which can potentially contaminate foods such as nuts. The most common causing allergic disease are Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus clavatus.

Aspergillosis
Aspergillosis is the group of diseases caused by Aspergillus. The most common subtype among paranasal sinus infections associated with aspergillosis is aspergillus fumigatus. The symptoms include fever, cough, chest pain or breathlessness, which also occur in many other illnesses so diagnosis can be difficult. Usually, only patients with already weakened immune systems or who suffer other lung conditions are susceptible.
In humans, the major forms of disease are:
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis or ABPA (affects patients with symptoms that produce significant respiratory morbidity such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and sinusitis).
Acute invasive aspergillosis (risk increases if patient has weakened immunity such as some AIDS patients and those undergoing chemotherapy).
Disseminated invasive aspergillosis (widespread through body).
Aspergillosis of the air passages is also frequently reported in birds, and certain species of Aspergillus have been known to infect insects.

In New York City , real estate is high, rent is high, and luxuries cost an arm and a leg. Most tenants and homeowners can’t afford to take big risk, yet some take the biggest risk with their health. This risk is the constant exposure to mold. Mold grows wherever there is organic material and moisture. When mold spreads throughout the home it can cause many health issues. Mold releases spores that attach to other damp, water logged areas and continues to spread. It is imperative that homeowners and businesses alike make it a priority to have their facilities inspected for mold and if a mold problem is found, for it to be removed immediately.

Mold spores are the reproductive part of mold or fungus that causes allergic reactions. Molds feed off decomposing plant and animal matter and grow by producing filament-like clusters. Mold and fungi reproduce by giving off huge numbers of mold spores into the air, similar to plants releasing pollen. When airborne mold spores settle on organ ic matter, new mold clusters are grown. When mold spores are inhaled, they may trigger an allergic reaction.
Mold and mildew growth is obvious when it grows in bathrooms along tile grout in shower stalls. However, mold also can grow in:
• Closets and storerooms.
• Foam pillows.
• Refrigerator door gaskets.
• Self-defrosting refrigerator water pans.
• Refrigerator cooling coils.
• Under-sink cabinets.
• Room air conditioner units.
• Washing machines.
• Dryer vents.
• Garbage cans.
• Basements.
• Carpets.
• Sheetrock and wallboard.
Symptoms of mold allergies include:
• Sneezing.
• Chronic cough.
• Runny nose.
• Nasal congestion.
• Itchy, watery and red eyes.
• Skin rashes and hives.
• Sinus headaches.
• Reduced lung capacity and difficulty breathing.

Scientific evidence links mold and other factor related to damp conditions in homes and buildings to asthma symptoms in some people with the chronic disorder, as well as to coughing, wheezing, and upper respiratory tract symptoms in otherwise healthy people, says a new report from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. However, the available evidence does not support an association between either indoor dampness or mold and the wide range of other health complaints that have been ascribed to them, the report says. Given the frequent occurrence of moisture problems in buildings and their links to respiratory problems, excessive indoor dampness should be addressed through a broad range of public health initiatives and changes in how buildings are designed,=2 0constructed, and maintained, said the committee that wrote the report.

“An exhaustive review of the scientific literature made it clear to us that it can be very hard to tease apart the health effects of exposure to mold from all the other factors that may be influencing health in the typical indoor environment," said committee chair Noreen Clark, dean, School of Public Health, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. "That said, we were able to find sufficient evidence that certain respiratory problems, including symptoms in asthmatics who are sensitive to mold, are associated with exposure to mold and damp conditions. Even though the available evidence does not link mold or other factors associated with building moisture to all the serious health problems that some attribute to them, excessive indoor dampness is a widespread problem that warrants action at the local, state, and national levels."

Excessive dampness influences whether mold as well as bacteria, dust mites, and other such agents are present and thrive indoors. Moreover, wetness may cause chemicals and particles to be released from building materials. Many studies of health effects possibly related to indoor dampness do not distinguish the specific health effects of different biological or chemical agents.

Through its careful review of the available scientific studies, the committee found sufficient evidence to conclude that mold and damp conditions are associated with asthma symptoms in asthmatics who are sensitive to mold, and to coughing, wheezing, and upper respiratory tract symptoms in otherwise healthy people. However, the evidence did not meet the strict scientific standards needed to establish a clear, causal relationship. An uncommon ailment known as hypersensitivity pneumonitis also is associated with indoor mold exposure in genetically susceptible people. Damp conditions and all they entail may be associated with the onset of asthma, as well as shortness of breath and lower respiratory illness in otherwise healthy children, although the evidence is less certain in these circumstances. Likewise, the presence of visible mold indoors may be linked to lower respiratory tract illness in children, but the evidence is not as strong in this case.

Through scientific study we can see the harm mold can cause you and your family, this is why you should schedule an inspection as soon as possible as well as continue to have annual inspections every year. With any possibly harmful situation precautionary measures can be taken. The keys to preventing mold growth within your home or business is moisture control. Water and moisture is essential for mold to have any chance of survival. In order to control moisture you must fix leaky plumbing and leaks in the home as soon as possible. Watch for condensation and wet spots. Prevent moisture due to condensation by increasing surface temperature or reducing the moisture level in the air (humidity). To increase surface temperature, insulate or increase air circulation. To reduce the moisture level in the air, repair leaks, increase ventilation (if outside air is cold and dry), or dehumidify (if outdoor air is warm and humid).Vent moisture-generating appliances, such as dryers, to the outside where possible. Maintain low indoor humidity, below 60% relative humidity (rh), ideally 30-50%, if possible. With these precautions you can prevent mold from invading your home and threatening the health of your loved ones.
If you are currently feeling any symptoms of mold allergies, you should see medical attention immediately. Allergy testing increases your knowledge about specific allergens and pinpoints the allergens to avoid. Allergy testing may include blood count and several other blood tests, including the IgE allergy antibody, nasal smear, pulmonary function study, chest and sinus X-rays, plus a detailed symptomatic medical history. As many 120 substances may be used in puncture testing on the upper back and arms to pinpoint exactly which allergens affect you. Intradermal tests of substances on the arms and dermatitis patch tests may be used as well, based on the puncture test results.

What to know about Athlete’s Foot and the household mold that causes it

Submit to FindNews.org
America is becoming a very unsanitary place with more than half of all homes and businesses harboring hundreds of different species of mold and bacteria. It is surprising that with these statistics we do not see more cases of athlete’s foot and jock itch but then again, most that have been infected by these bacteria are unaware that they have it. Athlete’s foot is commonly misdiagnosed as ring worm to be cured with a useless cream, what you may not know is that the process of cleaning your feet before applying the cream is what heals your infection.

Athlete’s foot is a communicable disease transmitted from human to human and in some cases even animal to human. It is caused by a parasite fungus that attaches itself to a host and deteriorates the skin in which it has attached itself. Commonly found on the bottom of the feet and between the toes. The beginning stages of athlete’s foot involve itching and redness between the toes and soles of the feet. Blistering and small bumps will be present and will resemble ringworm. If the athlete’s foot is not properly taken care of the blisters will begin to crack and the skin will peel which can become very painful and uncomfortable. In some cases the feet and toes will begin to bleed and become subjected to a second infection that can result in amputation.

Athlete’s foot is common in adult males and teens as well as anyone with a low immune system. This infection can be spread through direct contact with someone infected with these bacteria and is found in showers, around pools, locker rooms and anywhere that people walk around with bare feet. This parasite can also be spread by scratching and can often travel to the genital areas resulting in jock itch.

To cure and prevent athlete’s foot you should always keep your feet clean and dry by regularly washing your feet including between toes and under toe nails with an antibacterial soap. Make sure that your feet are completely dry before putting on socks and shoes by sprinkling baby powder inside your shoes and socks as well as all over your feet to absorb the moisture. If your feet begin to sweat or your feet are exposed to moisture remove your shoes and socks immediately to allow your feet to dry and put on fresh socks and shoes.

If you believe that you have athlete’s foot you should take the proper measures to protect your feet from this fungus taking over. Seek medical attention if your symptoms do not go away or if they re appear. To find out more on how you can prevent household mold in your home from taking over visit:

Stachybotrys – toxic black mold

Submit to FindNews.org
Mold is becoming a problem all over the United States and is an important reason for concern among home and business owners. Over the past few years we have seen a rise in household mold exposure cases and in some instances has resulted in serious illnesses and death. Stachybotrys or black mold is commonly found in areas that are frequently subjected to water and moisture including carpets, furniture and even wallpaper. Black mold is identified by its greenish black color that is often slimy to the touch. This fungus releases tiny spores consisting of deadly chemicals called mycotoxins into the air which is picked up in your air conditioning and distributed throughout your entire home to be inhaled by your family and pets.
The common side effects of mold include coughing and sneezing and can easy be misdiagnosed as the common cold or allergy. Short term exposure to black mold can cause a large variety of flu like symptoms ranging from stuffy nose and itchy eyes to skin rashes and nausea. If long term exposure to mold occurs the side effects can become deadly. Serious side effects include cancer, miscarriages, still births and even bleeding in the lungs. This serious bacteria is also known to cause athletes foot and jock itch which can be difficult if not impossible to treat and can be easily spread from human to human.
Stachybotrys is also very deadly for animals as well. Black mold is commonly found in hay that has been exposed to moisture. Stachybotrys has been linked to the deaths of hundreds of horses and cows who have eaten contaminated hay. Animals do not have to ingest the mold to become deathly ill; they simply have to inhale it. Black mold exposure in horses can cause serious neurologic damage as well as severe rashes and irritations to the mouth gums and lips. Black mold is also the leading cause of COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which causes shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing in horses making it very difficult to breathe.
If you believe that your family and animals have been exposed to stachybotrys you should seek a doctor or veterinarian before the affects of this mold become permanent. If you are unsure of a possible mold problem in your home a simple mold inspection will give you all of your answers on the type of mold found in your home as well as the proper procedure to remove it.

Mold Problems in Your Home

Submit to FindNews.org

Mold exposure can cause a large number of health problems ranging from itchy eyes, sneezing and coughing which will irritate allergic reactions, asthma attacks and even lung damage. Many people are unaware of the many side effects that mold can cause on the human body and are living day to day with its side effects. Mold is currently growing in most homes across the United States. Mold is typically hard to find and in many cases household mold is ignored because it will resemble dirt or grime. If you are continuously feeling ill it could very well be because you have a mold problem in your home. Mold is commonly found in damp wet areas such as under sinks, basements and between walls.
Mold growth begins when the mold spore particles collide with moisture and dampness. When that happens the mold starts to nourish and evolve. Damp places in your home become a breeding ground for mold to flourish and cultivate to continue to destroy your home while making your family sick. Mold particles and spores are commonly found in most homes and because of the fact that the mold spores are airborne they can be spread throughout your entire house in a matter of seconds. Your air conditioning unit is more than likely spreading the mold spores throughout your home and depositing them in every room including your room and your children’s rooms. Any area in your home that is being exposed to moisture and water vapors can become a breeding ground for mold to form. Before mold takes control of your home you should have an inspection done to distinguish what is causing this mold crisis. In an inspection an experienced mold specialist will inform you of the source of your mold problems and will also give you recommendations of how to remove the mold or will recommend a certified professional to remove your mold problems.
A mold problem should never be ignored and should be addressed immediately. To find out more on how you can keep your family safe from the dangerous mold species living in your home go to:
